hykoo-med.gifHello World! Or as we say in Brooklyn “YO!” Either way, greetings, my name is P. Steven Eng, I’m excited to be embarking on my first large scale web project, hykoo.com and documenting it here on our official blog. hykoo.com’s mission is to use the power of the web to help everyday folks get things done in a convenient and pleasant way. As the bootstrapping founder, I’m trying to make reality a vision I’ve had for many years. I’ve always wanted to build a user-focused online marketplace for local communities. Really, I have. You mean Like Everyone Else?
pone2.jpgAt the moment, there are a ton of social media sites populating the internet (especially video sharing), but I think that’s a good thing – social media represents a semi-permanent new way of doing things, a sort of internet version of direct democracy that’s not going away anytime soon. Besides, social networking isn’t our only raison d’etre, remember we’re more focused on helping people get things done. Social networking is only one part of that effort.

First Goal: Find a Good Development Partner
Its so critical to have reliable, supersmart developers that can turn your chicken scratch into reality. We are looking at a number of development partners now who’s product development life cycle uses the outward-in approach we’re leaning towards. We’ll tell you more as we get closer to selecting our team.

Why hykoo
Of course a Haiku is an ancient form of Japanese poetry that emphasizes elegance and efficiency, but what does it have to do with our site? Well, its our way of keeping our eyes on the prize – our goal is to build an intuitive, easy-to-use web community powered by an enterprise-grade backend. Simple, powerful. We also like “hykoo” because it rolls off the tongue nicely and reminds us about the “zen” way of maximizing results from minimal energy (don’t hate, meditate!)

Sure, alot of sites can help you land a job or find a roommate, but hykoo’s mission is make that whole experience as intuitive and pleasant as possible. That requires good information architecture planning, a dedicated user interface expert and reading a whole lot of Kathy Sierra. Topics to be covered on the next post, til next time folks. – PSE
